***Below is a brief synopsis of the culmination of the BE the Church campaign***
Today, Sunrise left the building and went to the streets and communities to BE the Church. Thus, we did not hold a worship celebration, but instead helped people in the community experience the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. Why would we do such a thing? Simply put, we are living out the covenant God made with Abraham and Isaac, which simply states, "You are blessed to be a blessing."
Here is a recap of what over 110 our our active worshiping congregation did:
1) A group of bicyclists delivered over 60 breakfast burritos to the homeless of downtown Winston-Salem. They now are planning to make this a bi-weekly event.
2) A group passed out over 160 bag lunches to the Burke Street area homeless in Winston-Salem and at the Bethesda Center
3) A group passed out lunch and personal care kits to the more homeless in another part of Winston-Salem
4) A group helped clean up and do landscaping at Jack Warren Park in Lewisville
5) A group visited and had communion with the residents of Clemmons Villiage Nursing Center
6) A group went and did yardwork for three shut-in residents in Vienna, Lewisville, and Yadkinville
7) A group met to organize a school backpack distribution mission
8) A group on a Women's Retreat weekend in Boone also engaged in mission work before returning back from their retreat.
In each of these service projects, the people of Sunrise, the Church, became the Feet, the Hands, and the Mouth of Jesus. Actions were married with speaking of the love and grace of Jesus.
The funny thing - as we were living out being a blessing to others, we were all blessed again. As the old song says, "The more love we give, the more He bestows."
Godspeed,
Tim
